IKO Shingle Repair: The Houston Owner’s Guide

IKO shingle repair in Houston typically costs between $350 and $950 installed, depending on how many shingles have failed and whether the underlying decking or underlayment has been damaged. We stock IKO-compatible shingles and color-match them to your existing roof, and most repairs are completed in a single visit. You’ll usually discover the problem after a hard storm: granule-covered shingles in the gutters, a dark water stain creeping across the ceiling, or tabs lifting off the deck after a stretch of Houston humidity and heat.

Greg Holloway has walked hundreds of Houston roofs, and the pattern with IKO failures is rarely the shingle itself. More often it’s the install, the ventilation, or what the previous crew left underneath. That matters because a repair that ignores the cause just fails again in the next storm cycle. We fix the shingle and the reason it came off.

Which IKO Models This Applies To

We work on the full IKO asphalt shingle line: Cambridge, Dynasty, Nordic, and the older Marathon and SuperShake profiles that still cover thousands of Houston homes built before 2010. Cambridge is by far the most common we see in Meyerland, the Heights, and the older sections of Sugar Land and Katy. Dynasty is a performance architectural shingle with a wider exposure, and it does not always color-match cleanly against a Cambridge patch, which is why we match by physical sample, not just by name and color code printed on the bundle wrapper.

The compatibility gotcha with IKO is color drift between production runs. Two bundles of “Dual Black” made three years apart will not be identical, and on a south-facing Houston slope with full sun, the difference shows inside a season. We use actual removed shingles or attic stock to match, and if we have to order, we tell you before any work starts. IKO does not manufacture OEM repair-grade mini-bundles for every color, so quality aftermarket matches are common and we will always tell you which you are buying.

Tilehurst Roofing Houston is an independent roofing company and not affiliated with IKO. We stock IKO product because Houston has tens of thousands of IKO roofs, and we also carry GAF, Owens Corning, and CertainTeed matches on the truck for when a roof has been layered over the years.

Signs Your IKO Shingle Repair Is Failing

  • Granules in the gutter. The protective ceramic layer is wearing off faster than it should, often because attic heat is baking the shingles from below. Houston attics that hit 140°F in July age a shingle twice as fast as a ventilated one.
  • Tabs lifting or curling at the edges. The asphalt has dried out and lost its bond, or nails were driven too shallow by the last crew. Once a tab curls, wind from a Gulf front gets under it and peels the whole course.
  • Dark streaks or green staining on the slope. Algae loves Houston humidity and a shaded north slope. The streaks look terrible and hold moisture, but the shingle itself usually still has life if you catch it early.
  • Water stains on the ceiling after rain. By the time interior staining shows, the leak has usually passed through roof decking and is running along a rafter. The visible stain is rarely directly under the failed shingle.
  • Ridge cap pieces missing after wind. The ridge is the first thing to fail in a storm, and a missing cap lets water run straight down under the roof peak. It is also the cheapest repair we do, so it is worth a call the day you notice it.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Houston, a small IKO shingle repair on a single slope runs $350 to $550. A repair spanning several courses, involving ridge cap replacement, or requiring new underlayment and decking patches lands between $600 and $950. If you have a leak that rotted decking, the cost rises with the square footage of wood we have to cut out and replace.

Here is what drives your number:

  • Number of shingles and whether we can color-match existing stock
  • Roof pitch and how safe the access is (steep roofs cost more in labor)
  • Whether the underlayment below the shingles is still sound
  • Whether decking needs replacing in the damaged area
  • Single-story versus two-story access (taller homes cost more to stage safely)

Every repair includes a written price before the work begins, and a written guarantee delivered before we leave the property. If the repair fails inside the guarantee period, we come back and correct it at no charge. That is the Kingswell Way: say the price before the work, show up in the window we gave, put the guarantee in writing.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely do the diagnosis. Walk the ground perimeter after every storm and look for missing tabs, lifted corners, and granule piles at the downspout. If you see a few failed shingles but the underlayment and decking are dry underneath, a repair is straightforward for a crew.

What you should not do is climb an IKO roof in Houston after a rainstorm. Composite shingles get slick, steep pitches are dangerous, and the consequence of a fall is not worth the cost of a repair call. We also see homeowners seal lifted tabs with roof cement as a temporary fix, and those patches trap moisture underneath and rot the decking faster. If the shingle is lifting, call us. The diagnosis is free, and you will know the price before we touch the roof.
